Interviewing potential roommates thoroughly is critical. Otherwise, you might end up with roommate horror stories like these (some details changed to protect the innocent):
- The roommate who broke up with a boyfriend and spent a good chunk of the month singing Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” at the top of her lungs.
- The housemate who offered up a small cottage as a concert venue for a thrash-metal band.
- The roomie who loved the band Cake so much that she played their one of their hit singles over and over and over.
Notice a theme? Oh, yes, the question “Do you play any instruments? What kind of music do you like?” might be the most important of all. Dachary Carey has several other important roommate interview questions that you should ask before you even think of sharing a space with a stranger.
