Love that mosaic look you see in furniture stores but don’t love the price? It’s easy to make a mosaic table or mosaic mirror yourself.

First you’ll need a plain, smooth-top table or framed mirror. IKEA is a great source for cheap furniture that will fit the bill. For the mosaic effect, all you need is glue, raw materials, grout and some time. Those raw materials can be as close as your neighbor’s yard sale. Look for old tiles and colored glass bottles and jars. When carefully cut and crushed, these can be colorful, inexpensive sources of mosaic pieces.

You can also use tiles from your local home center, if you want a quicker project. If you’re crushing tile or glass yourself, be sure to sand down any sharp edges just before you grout your mosaic.
